Move out of your Comfort Zone

Updated: Dec 27, 2019

Surfing is something that has changed my life. It is something that has constantly changed my mind and body. To push myself out of my comfort zone. To be brave and face my fear in the water. I have grown into a stronger person and I am thankful for that.💪

What about you?

Are you feeling too comfortable? Doing the same things everyday? Change may be something you need. (Share this with a friend who is too comfortable😂👯)

Which zone are you in?

If you are in the comfort zone, it is fine to take a rest here, but you will not be learning anything new. You must leave this stage if you wish to grow and learn.

Comfort zone: • Feel safe and in control: things feel familiar you and you are at ease and in control of the environment you are in.

The next stage is the Fear zone. Once you have made the decision to leave your comfort zone, you will reach a zone that is unknown to you. It is fine to be a little scared of it.

Here, it is ok to make mistakes. These mistakes will help you grow!

Fear zone: • Lack of self-confidence: you feel uncomfortable because you are unfamiliar with it. It can be a new skill you have just started to learn, a job you are new at, or somewhere that you have been for the first time. • Find excuses: you start to look for reasons to return to your comfort zone (don't do it!) • Be affected by others' opinions: stay around people who are positive and will encourage you to keep on trying even if you are making mistakes. This will help you become more motivated and not give up so easily.

Once you have noticed the fear, you start to learn about how to handle it and continue on with it. Now, you are at the Learning zone.

Learning zone: • Solve the problems: you think about ways to fix problems instead of finding excuses • Face challenges: you are willing to try new challenges and you know that it is ok to make mistakes (mistakes become valuable to you because you know you can learn from them) • Get new skills: you become more familiar with things that have been new to you once you get more practice • Stretch out your comfort zone: you are able to accept more challenges once you start adapting to the new environment

If you have reached the Growth Zone, Great job! This is where you will be able to reach great success.

Growth zone: • Find motivation: this will help to drive you forward and keep on facing even more challenges • Live dreams: you will start to do things you used to dream because you know you can achieve it one step at a time • Set new goals: you have accomplished several challenges and can set new ones for the future • Overcome obstacles: you are more confident in facing problems and you know you can solve them
