This is a popular topic that people like to talk about. I'm sure you have heard people say: "So I’m dating this guy…”. Does it mean the person is having a "casual date"(not boyfriend or girlfriend yet) or in a "serious relationship"(boyfriend and girlfriend)?
What does it mean?
There’s a difference between "dating someone" and just "dating".
“Dating” means you’re going on dates. You are actively going out (for dinner/coffee/drinks), meeting people, and spending time with them (1-on-1). - Seeing more than 1 person
“Dating someone” means you’re seeing somebody specific, with purpose and on a regular basis. - Only seeing 1 person
Here are more words and phrases you can use to discuss relationships:
Ask (somebody) out: to ask someone if they’d like to go on a date with you.
Go out with (somebody): means that you’ve been meeting with that person on repeated occasions, you’re getting to know each other.
Hit on (somebody): to act in a way that shows you’re attracted to the other person. It may include other forms of flirting like getting a bit more physical than normal - jokingly punching her/him - touching hands - continuous hugging - giving the other person sexy, provocative looks.
Hook up with (somebody): to have sex with someone. However, for some people, it might mean anywhere from making out (kissing) to sex.
Lead (somebody) on: to cause someone to think that you are interested in them when you are not (either because you want the attention or to get something)
Make out with (somebody): to heavily kiss. Can also include touching and petting.
Cheat on (somebody): To have sex with a person who’s not your boyfriend or girlfriend; wife or husband.
Dating apps have been quite popular in recent years. However, not everyone is comfortable with meeting new people online. I think it is just how you use "dating apps". I have met a lot of interesting people and having good chats over coffee.
