Learn English with Superhero Movies

Movies are fun and entertaining. They are also a great way to learn English.

Do you like Superhero movies? They're one of my favorite. I love the Incredibles!


Five Common Expressions from the movie, Incredibles 2:


  • for (one's) own good

  • get yourself together

  • to have (one’s) hands full

  • Tell me about it

  • got everything under control


1. For (one's) own good

What does it mean?

If you do something for someone’s own good etc, you do it to help them even though they might not like it or want it

How can I use the phrase?

You shouldn't be eating so much junk food. I’m only telling you this for your own good.



2. Get/pull yourself together

What does it mean?

If someone tells you to get yourself together or pull yourself together, it means the person wants you to calm down and behave normally again after being angry, upset, or overly excited.

How can I use the phrase?

Just pull yourself together. There's no point crying about it.



3. To have (one’s) hands full

What does it mean?

If you have your hands full with something, you are very busy because of it.

How can I use the phrase?

She had her hands full with her newborn baby.🤱



4. Tell me about it

What does it mean?

Used to say that you feel the same way or have had the same experience

How can I use the phrase?

🙍‍♀️He's driving me crazy with his stupid jokes. 🙍‍♂️Tell me about it!



5. Got everything under control

What does it mean?

The person knows what to do and and how to do it. He/she understands what to do and completely understands the situation

How can I use the phrase?

I’ve got everything under control. I don’t need help from anyone.
