2️⃣ Write down WHAT the conversation is about (1-2 sentences)

3️⃣ Listen again while following along with the full script.

Transcript for Eating Out Tips:

1. Make a reservation

You can say: I'd like a table for _______ (number of people).

Waitress: Hi, welcome to DC Hot Chili Pepper. Have you made a reservation?

Customer: Hello, would like a table for two. No, we didn't make a reservation.

Waitress: We are a bit full at the moment. You may leave your name and phone number. It may be around an hour's wait.

Customer: (In disbelief) There's only 2 tables occupied!

Waitress: I'm sorry. We take our social distancing very seriously. We can't serve more than 2 tables.

Customer: 😒

2. Make sure your order is correct

You can say: Sorry, could you repeat that, please?

Customer: Ok, so I would like to have the ham and cheese baked sandwich with no onions and tomatoes and get a side dish with fries and sprite with no ice. Double cheese as well.

Waitress: Ok, so you'd like to have the ham and cheese baked sandwich with no onions and no tomatoes. Your drink is sprite with no ice.

Customer: Actually I want iced coffee with no ice.

Waitress: (sigh)

Waitress: Here it is. Customer: Great, Thanks! Oooh this lunch set looks so good! I’ll have the pesto panini and corn soup for the side. Waitress: Oh for the garlic and onion it's the COVID special.

Customer: really?!! Oh, ok I’ll have that.

Waitress: It helps to improve your immune system and if you order extra garlic you’ll also get 5% discount on top. Customer: Um... ok... Waitress: Garlic is good for you. It will keep the virus away. Customer: Make it double. Waitress: (brings a plate of raw garlic) Customer: 😒

4. Make sure you can have the dish if there are any dietary needs You can say: Is this dish suitable for vegetarians?

Customer: I would like to have the Sesame Tofu Panini. Is this dish suitable for vegetarians? Waitress: Yes, it is.  Customer: Great. I'll have that. And also the strawberry orange salad with pecans. Oh, but I'm allergic to nuts, so can you leave out the pecans? Waitress: We sure can. I'll make note of it. Customer: Ok, thank you so much!
