Linking words or Connecting words are used to link or connect two ideas.
It is important in writing, especially during your TOEFL or TOEIC exams.

How to use them in a sentence:
Comparison: Similarly, the prom dance was also held on a Friday night.
Contrast: The party was fun but the food was bad.
Cause: Even if locals support the cause, there still will not be enough resources to help all of the children in need.
Summary: In conclusion, no one has more influence on a student’s grades than the student himself.
Time/sequence: In the meantime, the library will be closed during lunch period.
Result: Consequently, fewer students are able to take courses in the fine arts: music, art, and drama.
Addition: Furthermore, the students have formed a book club to assist each other after school.
Example: My students are very talented, for example, James can play 3 instruments.
Order: Last but not least, teachers should use open-ended questions and encourage students to think about different aspects of the problem.
